After graduating high school, I played guitar in various rock and country dance bands around Jacksonville at night while attending Florida Junior College and supplementing my income by going from part-time job to part-time job during the day.
 
On June 30, 1984, I married Lea Paul (Peri Paul's younger sister) and eighteen days later, I joined the U. S. Air Force. After basic training I attended tech school at Keesler Air Force Base to become a telecommunications specialist (tech controller). Following graduation, I was assigned to the 2nd Combat Communications Group (2nd Mob) at Patrick Air Force Base in Florida. I spent the rest of my enlistment traveling around the world wearing camouflage and living in tents.
 
On February 29, 1988, my daughter Christine was born. That same year, my enlistment ended and I left the Air Force with an honorable discharge. I was fortunate to immediately land a job at the Kennedy Space Center working for Lockheed as a technician in the operational television department. We bought a house in Port St. John.
